Pineola Farms to host Christmas Open House
December 5, 2009 - 10am - 4pm |
If Charles Dickens had lived in Peach County in the mid-1800s, he
would most likely have owned a home like the old Bassett house at
Pineola Farms. Chock full of family
heirlooms and antiques original to the home, the 1865 farmhouse is a
charming throwback to a simpler time.
On the first Saturday of December each year, Paul and Delise Knight
dress up their treasured home in Victorian-style décor and open it
to the public. It is so authentic that a visitor can truly feel what
it must have been like to live there 140 years ago. With the
addition of the old Cotton Barn to their property, the Knights have
created
an environment so pleasing to the senses that a guest may feel they
never want to leave.
The Pineola Farms Christmas Open House will be held on Saturday,
December 5. Tours will be available from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission
is $6 for adults.
This year, the Cotton Barn is being utilized in an exceptional way.
Several regional
authors will be on hand in the barn, selling and signing their
books. The list of authors scheduled to appear include Telegraph
columnist Ed Grisamore, historian Billy Powell, cookbook author
Nelle Sheton, children's author Sam Burnette, historian Dollie
Horton, and humorist Jerry Tomlin.
James Barfield, from the Historic Macon Foundation, will be on site
to sell and sign books, including two coffee table books written by
Mr. Barfield, with photographs by Walter Elliott, and "Architectural
Works of W. Elliott Dunwody, Jr., FAIA ." Copies - some signed - of
Katherine Stockett's well-reviewed new book, "The Help," will be
available for purchase, as well as other volumes from the Historic
Macon Foundation's bookstore.
Hospitality will include hot cider and muffins.
